My 5-Year Journey as a Commercial Electrician in the Philippines

My 5-Year Journey as a Commercial Electrician in the Philippines

My name is Roderick Aguilar, and for the past five years, I have dedicated my career to working as a commercial electrician on high-rise projects across the Philippines. What started as a job became a journey of growth, discipline, and pride in building structures that shape city skylines.

I began my journey on construction sites where every day started early. Wearing my hard hat and safety gear, I stepped into projects that demanded precision, teamwork, and technical skill. High-rise buildings are not just structures - they are complex systems that require careful planning and flawless electrical installation.

For five years, I have worked on installing complete electrical systems, focusing on lighting and power distribution. From laying conduits and pulling wires to installing panel boards, lighting fixtures, switches, and power outlets, every task required attention to detail. In high-rise buildings, even a small mistake can cause major delays, so accuracy and safety were always my top priorities.
One of the most challenging parts of working on high - rise projects is coordination. Electrical systems must align perfectly with civil, mechanical, and architectural works. I learned how to read electrical plans, follow technical drawings, and adapt to site changes. Sometimes we worked floor by floor, sometimes racing against deadlines to energize entire sections of a building.

There were long days under the heat, tight deadlines, and moments of pressure - but those challenges built my experience and confidence. I gained hands-on knowledge in:

  • Lighting system installation (indoor and outdoor)
  • Power system layout and wiring
  • Panel board installation and termination
  • Conduit and cable tray installation
  • Testing and troubleshooting electrical systems
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards

Seeing a building light up for the first time after months of installation work is a feeling of pride that never gets old. Knowing that families, businesses, and communities will rely on the systems we installed gives meaning to the hard work.

Over these five years, I didn’t just build electrical systems-I built discipline, teamwork skills, technical expertise, and resilience. Each project improved my understanding of commercial electrical work and strengthened my commitment to quality and safety.

My journey as a commercial electrician in the Philippines continues, and I am proud to be part of the teams that power high-rise developments and help shape the future of our cities.
