My 6-Year Journey as an Electrical Technician – Maintenance in Doha, Qatar

For six years, I worked as an Electrical Technician specializing in maintenance for sports complex facilities in Doha, Qatar. It has been a journey of responsibility, growth, and pride in maintaining world-class facilities that host athletes, events, and communities. Working in sports complexes is very different from construction projects. The focus is not just installation-but ensuring that every electrical system operates safely, efficiently, and without interruption. From stadium lighting to critical power systems, everything must function perfectly, especially during major events.

My daily responsibilities included maintenance of lighting and power systems, ensuring all areas of the facilities were fully operational. I handled high mast lighting and street lighting systems, making sure outdoor areas remained safe and well-illuminated. I also performed routine inspection, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance for generator sets (gensets), ensuring backup power was always ready in case of outages. Beyond lighting and power, I worked with CCTV systems to support security operations and maintained fire alarm systems to ensure safety compliance at all times. These systems required attention to detail, regular testing, and quick response whenever issues occurred.

Maintenance work taught me the importance of preventive action. Instead of waiting for problems to happen, we regularly inspected panels, circuits, breakers, control systems, and equipment to prevent downtime. Quick troubleshooting skills were essential, especially during live events where electrical reliability was critical.
